Audiovisual augmentation of art pieces made out of fabric, iron cloth and (in lack of a better/nicer word) junk.
André Prah has been an illustrator for over 30 years and has recently started creating art in new exiting ways. He asked us to try help breath life into his creations. On his own he had started using motors to add motion to his otherwise static pieces, we were asked to take that to the next level.
For "The spirit of the sea" we incorporated 24 LED's into the piece, we also added speakers and a MP3-player. The lights are controlled with a "DMX and Arduino solution". And as the roaring sound of an enormous wave, crashing in on the shore, the lights reinforces the illusion.
For "The beach" we added DMX-controlled lights and sound. Here we compromised a lonely fisherman's day to three minutes.
For "Nyhavn" we got a great idea. Since it is in fact a tiny replica of the real "Nyhavn" (a small harbour area in Copenhagen with lots of restaurants) we wanted to add the authentic sounds of that area. We also added three ultrasound sensors so that you can actually approach the piece and listen to different areas of "Nyhavn".
We also did a pretty annoying seagull, screaming at audience passing by, with great persistence.
These pieces has been exhibited at restaurant Sturehof and Edsviks konsthall, both in Stockholm.
This collaboration is ongoing and we are working on new things for this spring.
